Functional Spirits for Dry January

Years ago I had a patient tell me that she was participating in Dry January. I had never heard of Dry January at that time.  But, since then I hear people talking about it quite often.

This January 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the first Dry January Campaign, started by Emily Robinson and Alcohol Change UK. Emily had taken a month off from alcohol in January 2011 to prepare for a marathon. After noticing the health benefits she incurred and the amount of interest her month off from alcohol was stirring up, she decided to start an actual campaign encouraging participants to abstain from alcohol all 31 days of January. It has greatly grown in popularity over the last decade.

For years, people turned to seltzers, herbal teas, and mocktails during Dry January. But, now we have Functional Spirits as an alcohol alternative. As someone who has been sober for over 6 years- this has been a game-changer! Sometimes you just want something besides seltzer.

A Functional Spirit is a drink that has been enhanced beyond its inherent nutritional value to provide additional benefits. Functional spirit drinks are packed full of health-benefiting ingredients from adaptogens, nootropics, herbs, and plants that promote a sense of relaxation without the negative effects of alcohol.

So, if you are looking to participate in Dry January or even beyond that- you are wanting to be a more mindful drinker in 2023- then I encourage you to try Functional Spirits. At Pillar Holistic Living we carry some of my favorites- like Kin Euphorics and The Pathfinder Hemp & Root Spirit.

Cheers-
Dr. Jessica

In 1996, something happened that changed my life forever. And, in turn changed many other lives, too. At the time I was in college working toward my degree in Psychology & Criminology. The summer before my senior year of college I was hit head on by a drunk driver.
