What is Holistic Living?

Stress affects every system of the body. When we are stressed our body instinctively goes into a fight, flight or freeze state. If we are dealing with chronic stress in one or more of the 7 different dimensions of wellness, our nervous system becomes dysregulated;  and, our immune system can be impacted -causing us to experience a stress- DIS-ease connection. The 7 areas are: Spiritual, Emotional, Intellectual, Physical, Social, Environmental, and Financial.

Embracing a more holistic lifestyle where we are focusing on practices and habits that foster balance in these 7 different areas of our life can help regulate our nervous system, improve our immune system, and help us live a more calm and fulfilled life where we are thriving, not just surviving. Isn’t that what we all want?

Above, I mentioned  “embracing a holistic lifestyle”. Holistic  has certainly become the new buzzword. But, what does it actually mean?  The dictionary defines it as the belief that the parts of something are interconnected by the whole.

Perhaps this is what Aristotle meant when he said, The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.” My interpretation of Aristotle’s words are influenced by the Holistic Wheel (see image below).  I like to think that he was saying that when the parts are working in unison as a whole, rather than just one or a few parts working on their own, there is a greater sense of coherence in our lives. This is what, holistic living means.

When was the last time you checked in with yourself regarding these seven dimensions of holistic wellness? Take a moment and reflect.

What sort of emotions are you feeling on a regular basis? Do you find yourself experiencing shame, guilt, mood swings, fear, panic, rage, fear, overwhelm, confusion, self-blame, numb-feeling, or disconnected?

Check in with your body- are you experiencing insomnia, nightmares, teeth grinding, headaches, chronic fatigue or muscle tension?

What about socially? Do you find yourself co-dependent or clingy in your relationships, unable to be alone, or experiencing social anxiety?

These can be signs that you are out of balance emotionally, socially, physically or more.

At Pillar Holistic Living,  we are here to nourish your wellness journey-  by providing classes, services, products and more that help you create a lifestyle that nourishes you as a whole- mind, body and soul; as well as making environmentally conscious choices.

Is there something you’d like to see at Pillar? We’re here to serve the community in whatever way is best for the greater good – to help raise the collective vibration.

In 1996, something happened that changed my life forever. And, in turn changed many other lives, too. At the time I was in college working toward my degree in Psychology & Criminology. The summer before my senior year of college I was hit head on by a drunk driver.
